Catherine O'Riordan (MBACP / UKCP)
I work full time, from my home premises, as a private counsellor and psychotherapist.
I have recently trained as a Supervisor at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute and I have been supervising for some years; I also provide academic supervision.
Over the past few years I have been writing and running cpd workshops for counsellors and psychotherapists: The ‘Your Inner Child’ and ‘Shame’ workshops are the two I currently run. I also run bespoke trainings for counsellor services.
I originally trained at Goldsmith’s College University of London (1995), then at the Lincoln Centre and Institute for Psychotherapy (1997), where I did my Observational Studies training. I am a relational developmental Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist and trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (MSc Integrative Psychotherapy 2014).
I work in a predominantly Humanistic way and draw on a variety of theoretical sources including Object Relations, Neuroscience and Developmental Theory. My focus is to work with the individual who has a problem and help them to heal, grow and mature as an adult. Where clients have a spirituality or Faith I work in a way that fully incorporates their beliefs.
My MSc research was a descriptive phenomenological inquiry into the client’s experience of discovering and reconnecting with hidden aspects-of-self within the context of Humanistic-Integrative Psychotherapy. This research set me on the path of my research and practice using the Inner Child metaphor.
I have been published three time in the BACP Private Practice Journal where I shared how I use NLP and Hypnotherapy integratively as part of my practice and on using the Inner Child metaphor. I used to have a regular space in my local Nottingham Post newspaper around mental healthiness and I am passionate about helping people to understand how to care for themselves and make what changes they can to improve their wellbeing.
I have worked as a counsellor and chaplain in a London 6th Form College and in FE. I previously worked as a Magistrate in the Adult, Youth and Community Courts and I was a Magistrate Member of the Police Authority where I was Chair of Equalities.
I have two degree's from Heythrop College, University of London: BA(Hons) Philosophy and Theology (1987) and MTh Christian Doctrine (1989).
